The Inside Out Stage at Jacob’s Pillow is far and away my favorite performance space to make photographs.

From night to night you just never know what you are going to get out there. It’s unpredictable. It’s always changing. But regardless of the light, the weather or the crowd, it’s a gorgeous place to perform and to see performance.

Four nights a week througout the festival, you can see dance performance for FREE. There’s a fun picnic vibe as lots of people come early to breathe in the clean Berkshire air and soak in the atmosphere. It’s a perfect place for kids. Inside Out offers children and families a rare opportunity to get exposed to world class dancers. We bring Gracie every night as we are committed to sharing with her our love of dance and the arts. She can clap and talk and run around at Inside Out, it’s all part of the scene.

The stage is 30 or more years old and in desperate need of reconstruction. The local authorities will not allow the stage to remain unless it is brought up to modern standards. Our beloved Inside Out Stage is in jeopardy.

We have until the end of the Festival to raise $100,000 for the reconstruction. To date we have raised over $90,000. We are almost there!! Will you help us today by donating just $5? Of course we will gladly accept more! But even $5 will make a huge difference as we have almost reached our goal.

Click Here to contribute to this landmark stage and come visit the new Inside Out next summer!!

Here are a few of my favorite images from the 2010 Festival:

At a recent wedding, there were half a dozen or so little girls all dressed in beautiful white dresses. They weren’t actually flowers girls, but they all seemed to be dressed in a coordinated fashion and they were all adorable. At the reception, as soon as the music started, these little girls all began dancing, twirling, moving. They took over the dance floor. They were in heaven being with each other and there was no way to stop them from dancing. It was such a joy to watch.

Every so often a few adults would venture out to join them. I stepped out to make a photograph of a couple slow dancing. I crouched down to get the angle I wanted and waited for the couple to drift into my lens. I like to get low to the ground sometimes. I had the camera to my face and all I could see was what was in front of the lens. Then out of nowhere “WHAM!”. One of the twirling flower girls smashed into me, full body, full force. This little 4 year old knocked me right over! I rolled onto my back somewhat embarrassed and immediately apologizing to her. She couldn’t care less and twirling off she went.

I was absolutely delighted. It was the highlight of my night.

At the Joyce Theater this week you can see two different evenings, either Gallim Dance and Camile A. Browne or Kate Weare and Monica Bill Barnes. If you’re lucky you’ll see them bnoth! I photographed their dress rehearesals on Monday and Tuesday and Nel and I will shoot their shows on video tonight and tomorrow. Each pairing of companies makes for a full evening of thought proviking and entertaining modern dance.
Friday July 3rd, Mattituck Long Island. Macari Vineyard. One might expect heavy traffic on this day especially heading from the city 85 miles out East.

The bride arrived at 6pm when we all expected her at 4pm. Donnie (my awesome second shooter) and I sat on a sofa in the lobby and waited. The guests arrived at the vineyard and waited. I knew that once the bride arrived it would be a whirlwind of activity to get her hair and makeup done, her dress on and get her to the ceremony ASAP!

The 6:30 ceremony didn’t begin until 8:15. Donnie and I worked really quickly making photos of everything just as fast as we could. The pace of everything seemed a bit up-tempo. But what a beautiful bride, the vineyard at sunset was stunning and the expert design and planning of Christine Brower made everything absolutely gorgeous and run smoothly. Everyone had a great time including us.

But, best of all, Marie and Johnny never stopped smiling the whole night.

Dear Christopher,

Thank you soooo much for your dedication to our wedding. You were a pleasure to work with and made the process feel fun and carefree.

When all the stress was occurring, you maintained your professionalism at all times and even made me feel comfortable by just having a smile on your face.

It meant the world to me!

Thank you for being that special person that made our wedding effortless! We look forward to seeing the wonderful pictures and we are so thankful to you for wanting to work with us. Christine was definitely a Guardian Angel shining her light on us when she recommended you!

All the best, Marie & Johnny

I love making photographs. But I love the people I get to photograph ten times more.

I love their stories. I love what I help them create on their wedding day or at their event. I love making a difference in their lives. I love that my photographs become a treasured and priceless part of their family history.

When a client let’s me love them like that it’s magic.

Felice and Alex were that client. We met through Quentin’s Friend, a values based online community we are both a part of. When we sat down together they told me they had beenookong at photographers, but hadn’t yet found the “right” one. I knew exactly what they meant.

And as they began to tell me how they were crafting their ceremony, how they through out all traditions and one by one were looking at themand learning about them andovojg bringing ben back in tithe ceremony, and how much they loved their Rabbi and what an integral part of it all he was, I knew I wanted to work with them.

Couples who bringing that much love and attention to creating their ceremony, caring for their guests, honoring themselves and the marriage ritual, these are my most favorite clients.

Congratulations Felice and Alex!

A quick ride in a fun double decker bus brought them down 5th Avenue passed the Metropolitan Museum of art and finally to the reception at the Ukranian Institute.

Last month I teamed up with Jackie Weppner of MerciNYC for a styled photo shoot. It’s something new we are offering together. Kick your engagement shoot up a few notches by working with MerciNYC’s lead stylist. Jackie’s unique sense of style and sharp eye for what’s hot really makes for an unforgettable shoot. Indulge yourself, you’re only engaged once!

We found an terrific couple, Haley and Easton, both dancers and both excited to do a shoot together. We were lucky to catch them as Easton was just finishing a 6 month stint as the adult Billy Elliot on Broadway and they had both just accepted jobs dancing with Ballet West and were about to move to Salt Lake City.

Jackie pulled together a kick-butt team:

Clothing and Prop Styling: Jackie Weppner – MerciNYC
Florals: Kathleen Hyppolite – Kat Flower
Hair: Elena Pinkasov – Signature Styles Salon
Makeup: Anni Bruno – NYC Faces

We headed out to the Meat Packing District and then up to the Chelsea High-Line. Jackie’s choices for clothing and props took our shoot over the top. Haley and Easton looked great together and the shoot was amazing.

I am so excited that the shoot got published today on the Wedding Chicks front page!

Here are a few of my favorite images:
