Memorial Day

I spent the Memorial Day weekend in Washington DC with my family. We were there honoring First Lieutenant George Emerson Jones, my mother-in-law’s (Becky Shelby) brother. He was killed in action in a mid-air collision in Vietnam 40 years ago this summer. He was Missing in Action from July 7, 1967 until 1995. After DNA testing on the remains, Becky’s brother was buried in Arlington with full Military Honors. (click on the images to see them larger)

We were joined by very special guests, Sergeant Gary Ritter, his wife Kris and their daughter, Cheyenne.

Sergeant Ritter bought an MIA bracelet in Germany when he was 9 years old. He wore the bracelet on his wrist for nearly 10 years. The name on the bracelet was 1st Lieutenant George E. Jones.

Sergant Ritter found out so many years later that the remains of Lt Jones had been returned to the family. He wanted to return the bracelet to the family, too.

It took a few years of tracking, but he finally got in touch with Becky and she graciously invited him to join us in DC this weekend. Sergant Ritter presented the MIA bracelet to the youngest child of Lt. Jones, our cousin Krissy.

Lucy made a cake to mark the occasion. She got the receipe from Martha Stewart. The frosting alone has a pound and a half of butter!

Monday we went to Arlington Cemetary. Here’s the President waving at us from his motorcade.

Becky’s cousin, Rick, knew his Great Great Grandfather had been buried here. Here’s his grave stone, one of almost 300,000 stones decorated with the American Flag for Memorial Day.

Sergant Ritter and his family at the gravestone of 1st Lt. Jones and Capt Charles Blankenship. Both men were flying in the B52 when it went down over the South China Sea.

The family gathered around the gravesite for a while, sang a few songs, shared a prayer and some quiet time together.

Meredith & Richard

Two Sundays ago Melissa Lynn and I photographed Meredith and Richard’s wedding! They couldn’t have had perfect weather and the spot they picked for their ceremony was lush green and just perfect.

Here’s Richard seeing Meredith for the first time.

The happy couple just before the ceremony.

Couldn’t resist one more of Grandma and Grandpa!!

Dance Magazine

Have you seen the latest issue of Dance Magazine?! Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival is featured in this June’s Dance Magazine. The Festival is celebrating it’s 75th Anniversary Season and Dance Magazine celebrated with a spread of photographs from the first 75 years.

The image in the upper right corner is mine. (You can click on the image to see it bigger) I shot it at the Inside/Out Stage last summer of the Lulu Washington Company. The energy and excitment of this group was stunning. And the atmosphere of Inside/Out is irresistable.

Come join the fun this summer at Jacob’s Pillow. In addition to the world class dance on the two main stages, there are over 200 FREE events including all the perfromances at Inside/Out. Bring a picnic, bring the kids, bring your imagination and JUST COME!!!

I’ll see you there! Let’s dance!

Kishan & Craig

A couple of weeks ago, on a beautiful Thursday afternoon, I photographed Kishan and Craig’s wedding up in Trumbull, CT.

It was just the couple and their families. Kishan looked so gorgeous and just beamed with excitement.

It was a great day for all of us!

"65 Happy Years!!"

Sunday I photographed Meredith and Richard’s wedding out in Somerset, NJ. It was beautiful and I promise to post a few more photos of the day. Something that really touched me was meeting her grandma and grandpa. Grandma couldn’t have been more proud to tell me that her husband was 94 years old. And that this year they will be celebrating 65 years of marriage!

I said to her, “Wow! You’ve been married 65 years?! That’s amazing!” She smiled at me and shared that what was amazing was NOT that they had been married for 65 years, but that they have had “65 HAPPY years together.”

Thank you grandma!! What a blessing!
