Nidia & Danny

Nidia and Danny were married Saturday afternoon at the Banchett Flower Shop in the Meat Packing District here in Manhattan. What a beautiful spot for the ceremony, the room was filled with purple and pink and white and orchids and lilies! And outside was neat, too. The old cobblestone streets just the perfect back-drop for the old New York feel.

Pete Fand and his band jammed out on the street and then lit up the inside. I had a great time and so did everyone else. Folks were dancin’ and sweatin’ from the beginning to the end! Congratulations Nidia and Danny!

The Big Picture

The festival’s begun and the quiet and peaceful Pillow campus has become filled with hundreds of dance aficionados. There’s the school and the Inside Out stage and CND2 in the Ted Shawn Theater! It’s abuzz with activity and creative energy. It’s really opened with a bang.
I’ve been looking around for some of the smaller details of that tell the rich story of the happenings of the Pillow.
More to come!

74 Pillows

What could be better for a NYC kid than to spend the summer in the cool Berkshire mountains? How about add in making photographs of dancers and artists and the people who put together the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival? Twenty dance companies from around the world, over 200 free events, a school that brings in dozens of top-notch artists to study and teach, and 73 years of history!
Jacob’s Pillow’s mission is “to support dance creation, presentation, education, and preservation; and to engage and deepen public appreciation and support for dance.” They asked me to capture all that in pictures. It’s going to be an awesome summer!

Let’s dance!

Destination NYC

The words “Destination Wedding” usually bring warms thoughts of a barefoot bride smiling in the sunshine and the warm breeze of a Carribean island. But if you’re from Denmark, Central Park can excite the senses in plenty of other ways.
For Louise’s 30th birthday, Mikkel decided to take her and their 10 month old son, Julius, on a trip to NYC. And when he told her about it, she said “Let’s get married there!”

Kim Kirkley officiated the ceremony at the Ladies Pavilion, then Louise, Mikkel, Julius and I got to go and make some pictures. We all had fun!

Jumping on the Band Wagon

I had the great opportunity Monday to shoot Ellis Wood and Amanda Szeglowski of Ellis Wood Dance.

The company will be performing a site specific dance piece at 55 Wall Street later this summer. Ellis and Amanda gave me just a taste of what 20 dancers will be doing for lunching Wall Streeters. What a treat!
